Forgiveness

Forgiveness. We all want it when we mess up, but we have a hard time giving it to others.  Why is that? Why is it so easy for us to ask for forgiveness but when others ask it of us we hold the grudge? Sometimes we say someone is forgiven but we really never forgive them.  We save that mistake for a time when we can use it to our advantage.
That is not how forgiveness works.  Forgiveness is not a temporary forget of the wrong to be brought back up later.  Forgiveness isn't just pretending it never happened.  Forgiveness is pardoning the wrong from the one who committed it.  Forgiveness is letting go.  We are not condoning the wrong or accepting it, we are letting it go.  We are choosing to forgive out of love.
Luke 11:4 says, "forgive us our sins, for we also forgive everyone who sins against us."
We are ALL imperfect. We are ALL sinners. We ALL need forgiveness.
Jesus came so we all could be forgiven.  His death on the cross was the penalty for our sin.  His resurrection defeated death so we could live.  When we put our faith in Jesus he forgives our sin.  He does not forget our sin.  He does not pretend our sin didn't happen.  We are held accountable for our sin.  Our sin was nailed to the cross.  He took it to the cross.  His pain and suffering was so we could have life.  Eternal life.
We are all imperfect. We all need forgiveness. So lets be more like Christ and extend forgiveness to those who do wrong.  We do not need to pretend it never happened. We need to remember that just as we want forgiveness for our mistakes, those who make mistakes against you feel the same way.
"In everything, therefore, treat people the same way you want them to treat you..." Matthew 7:12

So lets extend forgiveness to others.  Out of love and mercy.... Let it go.

Forgive as God forgave us.

God bless you all!
